Today, anti-‘Black Pete’ (Zwarte Piet) activist Jerry Afriyie was convicted by the Court of Appeal in The Hague. The Appeals Court found Afriyie guilty of resisting arrest whilst he was being arrested during the anti-Black Pete demonstration during the arrival of Sinterklaas in Gouda in 2014. On the other hand, the Court of Appeal acquitted Afriyie for the count of abuse. The district court of The Hague had acquitted Afriyie after he succesfully pleaded duress.
Lawyer Michiel Pestman has filed a cassation-appeal with the Dutch Supreme Court on behalf of Afriyie.
